Editorial Policy

Our commitment to original, trustworthy content

Our Mission

Sharp Cooking publishes guides and articles to help home cooks organize their recipes, understand recipe copyright, improve accessibility, and cook more effectively. Our content is written to inform, not to sell — and we hold ourselves to high editorial standards.

This Editorial Policy explains our content standards, how we handle copyright, our use of AI tools, and how we correct errors.

Content Standards

Original Content

All guides and articles published on Sharp Cooking are original works written by our team. We do not copy content from other websites, cookbooks, or publications. When we reference external sources, we cite them properly and link to the original.

Research & Accuracy

We research topics thoroughly before publishing. Our guides on recipe copyright cite official sources like the U.S. Copyright Office, CJEU rulings, and food writer commentary. Our accessibility articles reference WCAG standards and W3C guidelines. We link to authoritative sources so readers can verify information themselves.

Editorial Independence

Sharp Cooking content is editorially independent. We don't accept payment for coverage, and advertisers have no influence over what we write. Our revenue comes from contextual advertising displayed alongside content — ads are clearly labeled and separate from editorial.

User-Focused Writing

We write for home cooks, not search engines. Our goal is to answer real questions clearly and directly. We use plain language, avoid jargon, and structure content for readability with headings, lists, and FAQ sections that make information easy to find.

Copyright Commitment

Sharp Cooking respects copyright law and expects our users to do the same.

Our content: All original articles, guides, and documentation on Sharp Cooking are copyrighted by Schick Creative LLC. You're welcome to link to our content, quote brief excerpts with attribution, or share articles on social media. Please don't republish full articles without permission.

User recipes: Recipes you save in Sharp Cooking remain yours. We don't claim ownership of user content. Your recipes are private by default and protected from search engines and AI scrapers.

Third-party content: When users import recipes from cookbooks or websites, they're responsible for respecting copyright. We've built sharing limits and privacy controls to prevent bulk distribution of copyrighted content, but personal use and organization of your own recipes is entirely appropriate.

AI Usage & Transparency

In App Features

Sharp Cooking uses AI to extract recipe data from photos, PDFs, and websites. This is clearly disclosed in our feature descriptions. The AI reads text, identifies ingredients and instructions, and structures the data — users review and edit the results before saving.

In Editorial Content

All guides and articles are written and edited by humans. We may use AI tools for research assistance, proofreading, or generating first drafts, but every published article is reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by our editorial team. We do not publish AI-generated content without human oversight.

Corrections & Updates

We strive for accuracy, but mistakes happen. When we discover errors — whether through internal review or reader feedback — we correct them promptly.

Factual errors: We correct factual errors immediately and note corrections at the top or bottom of the article when appropriate.

Content updates: Articles may be updated over time to reflect new features, updated legal guidance, or improved clarity. Updated dates are shown where relevant.

Reader feedback: If you spot an error or have questions about our content, please contact us. We read every message.

Sources & Attribution

We link to primary sources whenever possible:

  • Legal sources: U.S. Copyright Office, CJEU rulings, statutory text
  • Technical standards: W3C, WCAG guidelines, MDN
  • Expert commentary: Food writers, cookbook authors, accessibility advocates
  • Research: Peer-reviewed studies, institutional reports

Affiliate Disclosure

Sharp Cooking participates in the Bookshop.org affiliate program. When we recommend cookbooks, we may use affiliate links that allow us to earn a small commission if you make a purchase — at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate relationships never influence our editorial judgment. We only recommend cookbooks we believe are genuinely valuable to home cooks. Our reviews and recommendations are honest, independent, and based on the quality and usefulness of the book — not on potential commission earnings.
